Tourism and economic growth in the Pacific region: evidence from five small island economies

We present a country-specific analysis on the effect of tourism economic growth five small Pacific Island Countries (PICs) – Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Vanuatu. The results show development is growth-enhancing for all countries. Foreign direct investment (FDI) Islands Vanuatu, in short run, delayed negative association Fiji Vanuatu found. Remittances are growth-retarding Samoa Tonga, with short-run positive Samoa. Financial While underscore huge importance generating FDI Pacific, given ongoing adverse effects Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, PICs will have to focus alternative sectors progress activities. Policy suggestions discussed along these lines.
